Just one short year ago Bristol's Stokes Croft area hit the national headlines when tensions over a new Tesco supermarket on Cheltenham Road erupted into two consecutive weekends of rioting.
Despite a massive local campaign against it, the store opened, and the No Tesco group was landed with a legal bill of £2,126.50 for daring to stand up against the workfare-exploiting, tax-averse, greenfield-gobbling retail giant.
To raise some readies and help pay off the bill, the People's Republic of Stokes Croft will be hosting a fundraiser at its Jamaica Street HQ on Friday 13 April from 7.30pm, with DJs, live music, poetry and street theatre, whilst Occasional Cinema will screen films in the adjoining yard.
In addition you can buy limited edition 'I Paid The Fine' china mugs for just £12, with a dozen of them coming with a free Banksy 'Tesco Value Molotov' - the last of the prints launched at last year's Bristol Anarchist Bookfair.
