Darryl spends a night at the Inn at Fossebridge

Set in the glorious Cotswolds, the Inn at Fossebridge is a gorgeous Georgian country hotel, offering eight well-appointed rooms as well as a family (and dog, Henry would love it here) friendly bar and restaurant, all within in its own four acre grounds. Just off the main road, and handy for the Chedworth Roman Villa as well as some spectacular country walks, this apparently unassuming manor house hotel is an incredible find.
A great place to stay any time of year, the gardens are outstanding, complete with a private lake and resident swans and would make a brilliant venue for a celebration or wedding. The Inn at Fossebridge is also a fantastic place to drop in for lunch – I’m told they do a cracking Sunday roast – or dinner. With starters from £6 and mains from around £12 it’s not too expensive either. Head Chef Matt Wardman and his team use as many local ingredients as they can get their hands on (you can check out the Inn’s website for a list of local suppliers), and I highly recommend the chocolate and salted caramel tart if it’s on the menu!
What you won’t find is a sterile atmosphere and bland staff; the Inn at Fossebridge makes no pretence towards being a faceless, business hotel. The staff are endlessly friendly and helpful, the food exquisite (I would honestly say my dinner was the finest three course meal I have ever eaten, and the huge breakfast the following day was a tasty, locally-sourced delight) and the hotel itself comfortable and easy-going. There may be a few rough edges (nothing that a lick of paint here or there wouldn’t solve) but that’s part of the charm of the place: it’s not supposed to be perfect, it’s lived-in and homely, quirky and in pretty decent nick for a building that’s over 300 years old.
